In the months of March and April, we will be

the public are:

2. A PEEK AT “BAD COMPANY”
On Wednesday, February 15th at 10:00 am,
Kaleidoscope Theatre
performed the anti-drug soft-rock musical,
“Bad Company” at the
Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket, RI. Students
were bused in from
area schools to watch the performance,
making an audience of
nearly three hundred. This was an exciting
day for Kaleidoscope
Theatre because schools have mostly been
booking our award-
winning “I’m Special – You’re Special” and
our new show
“B.U.L.L.Y.”. In fact, this was the first
time that “Bad
Company” was performed during this school
year, so we were all
very excited to see the show back on its
feet again!
“Bad Company” deals with alcohol, caffeine,
nicotine, marijuana,
cocaine, and crack, and utilizes a cast of
six school-aged
children who use peer education to teach the
audience about the
dangers and risks associated with these
drugs. The show is
filled with fun demonstrations and silly
skits, so the entire
cast and audience always have a great time
during the show.
For example, at one point in the show, two
cast members dress
up as drug-expert Dr. I. M. Schmott and his
goofy, accident-
prone assistant Ohno. At another point, two
cast members dress
up as a soda can and a pack of cigarettes;
in turn, they pop a
heart-shaped balloon and tap-dance on a pair
of plexiglass lungs
to illustrate the effect that ingesting
caffeine and smoking can
have on your body. Throughout the show, the
cast utilizes
colorful visuals to demonstrate the dangers
of associated with
these drugs, and sing upbeat, lively songs
to involve the
audience in a fun, anti-drug performance
that any school’s
student body will surely enjoy. Last week’s
audience certainly
did!

a show to your

3. KALEIDOSCOPE THEATRE Q&A:
In this section, we will address questions
that you, our audience
members and our mailing list subscribers,
have about Kaleidoscope
Theatre. To ask us a question, just send an
e-mail to
kaleidoscope@kaleidoscopetheatre.com with
“Q&A” in the subject
line, and your question may be answered in
the next month’s
newsletter!
Don writes:
“I’m a teacher at an elementary school, and
we have a very
limited budget. I think your shows could be
very beneficial
here, but I doubt we can afford it. What’s
the least you
charge for a school show?”
We have one show, “I’m Special – You’re
Special,” which deals
with the inclusion of a boy with Down
Syndrome into a public
school. It has been touring for over 25
years, and has earned
us several awards for the way it promotes
the talents of
individuals with differing abilities, and
encourages acceptance,
understanding, and empathy from other
individuals and the rest
of society. The John Moran Fund through the
Woonsocket
Association for Retarded Citizens partially
funds certain
performances of this show so that its
message will reach as
many people as possible. Furthermore,
Kaleidoscope Theatre
will absorb a portion of the cost of this
show for schools in
need. With this assistance, eligible schools
are able to book
“I’m Special – You’re Special” for as little
as $250 per
performance. This funding, of course, is
limited, and is given
to schools on a first-come first-served
basis.
To discuss whether your child’s school is
eligible for this
reduced rate, please call our office at
(401) 942-3637 or e-mail
us at kaleidoscope@kaleidoscopetheatre.com.
