1. THIS
MONTH - “LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD”
Our next
RI public performance is “Little Red Riding
Hood” on Saturday, January 15th! This
musical adaptation of the familiar
fairy
tale has audience involvement and
participation galore! From a unique
beginning to a fun-filled happy ending, the
traditional characters come to life through
song, dance and laughter. As our wily old
wolf says, "My 'tail' is a great tale
to be
told and we hope you can join us!
The show
will be at the Scottish Rite Auditorium
(2115 Broad St. Cranston, RI) at 2pm.
Tickets are $8 in advance and
$10 at
the door for floor seating and $10 in
advance, $12 at the door for stadium
seating.
For tickets, please call Kaleidoscope
Theatre directly at (401) 942-3637.
Fans in
Massachusetts can also see this fan-favorite
musical the following day on Sunday, January
16th. This performance
for the
North Shore Musical Childrens Theatre will
be at 466 Central St. in Saugus, MA.
For tickets, please contact Paul Ryan at
(781) 230-EXPO or email him at
grouptixne@aol.com.
Our
monthly series will continue at both venues
throughout the spring. In February,
Kaleidoscope will present “Hansel &
Gretel”.
March will see the return of our traditional
version of “Beauty & the Beast” followed by
“Goldilocks & the Three Bears”
in
April.
2. 2011
SCHOOL-TOURING
Dates
are filling up, but Kaleidoscope is still
taking bookings for the 2010-2011 school
year. If you’re interested in more
information about any of these programs,
email your inquiry to
kaleidoscope@kaleidoscopetheatre.com.
*
“BULLY” - A show dealing with the
ever-present and often dangerous problem of
bullying in our schools. This sensitive
yet
realistic portrayal depicts common
situations experienced by the bully, the
bullied, and the bystanders and offers
viable
alternatives and solutions on how to deal
and heal.
* “I’m
Special, You’re Special” - Touring for 22
years, this play with music has been
continually updated and never fails to reach
its audience. The show deals with the
inclusion (mainstreaming) of David Brown, a
young boy with Down Syndrome, into his
brother's and sister's school. See how he
struggles and triumphs in this new
situation, learning how to handle change and
make new friends.
*
“Pocahontas: The True Story” - Come join
Pocahontas as she teaches the audience about
preserving nature and respecting the
circle
of life. This production is a great tie-in
to history units and helps illustrate the
importance of mutual respect among
people
and cultures.
*
“Goldilocks & the Three Bears” - Come with
us on a delightful romp through the
traditional tale of Goldilocks, but be
prepared for a new twist at the end. Did you
ever wonder what happened after Goldilocks
ran all the way home? Well, we answer
that
question in a fresh and fun way and teach
some lessons about proper manners, too.
* “Jack
& the Beanstalk” – Help students explore the
power of their own imaginations so they can
help Jack and his mother believe in dreams
again.
* “The
Magic of Story Time” - With this
presentation, both Snow White and Cinderella
will appear at your school and read musical
versions of their stories. Perfect as a
special treat for students or as a tie in to
the reading curriculum.
3.
UPDATE FROM THE ANTI-BULLYING COMMITTEE
Since
the successful Summit event on October 26th,
the committee has been hard at work
compiling the information generated from
everyone who attended. The raw data will now
be analyzed and the results will be
forthcoming soon.
Stay
tuned! -
http://www.anti-bullyingsummit.com/
4. SAVE
THE DATE – FAIRY TALE FUNDRAISER
Kaleidoscope Theatre held a successful
fundraiser for our BULLY programs last May
and we have another event on the horizon.
Last
year, fans were able to see an original
fairytale called, “Alice Through the
Kaleidoscope” that incorporated a brand new
story
line and Kaleidoscope music… and we plan to
do the same this year. So save the date of
Friday, May 13th and stay tuned for details!
All
proceeds from the event will help to bring
our BULLY programs to schools that could
otherwise not afford it.
5. IN
THE EVENT OF SNOW
As the
winter progresses, a snow storm affecting
one of our performances is a remote but
unfortunate possibility. If you ever
have a
question about whether a performance will be
going ahead as scheduled during inclement
weather, please check our
public
blog at
www.kscopetheatre.blogspot.com or our
Twitter feed at
http://twitter.com/kscopetheatre
