5. Supporting Our Members
1. “BEAUTY & THE BEAST”
Our monthly RI and MA series, continues this month with the
traditional tale of “Beauty & the Beast.” While our production
doesn’t have any dancing candlesticks, it has wonderful
sets, beautiful period costumes, and absolutely gorgeous music.
Join us as Beauty and her family lose everything in a terrible
storm at sea only to discover that outward beauty and
possessions are not important, but that it’s the beauty inside
that really counts.
If you live in Rhode Island, join us at 2pm on March 19th at the
Scottish Rite Auditorium (2115 Broad St., Cranston, RI) to
watch as Beauty sees past the Beast’s outward appearance and
discovers true love. Tickets, which are $10 in advance for
stadium seats and $8 in advance for floor seats, can be
purchased by calling (401) 942-3637.
Audiences in Massachusetts can see this classic show the
following day on March 20th also at 2pm. This performance
will be held at 466 Central St. in Saugus, MA and tickets can be
reserved by calling Paul Ryan at (781) 230-EXPO.
If you have any questions about either performance, feel free to
call us or email us at
kaleidoscope@kaleidoscopetheatre.com!
Our monthly series will continue in April with “Goldilocks” and
then in May with our Fundraiser performance of “Alice
Through the Kaleidoscope.” We hope you can join us!
2. MEET FLORA & DORA
Before you come see “Beauty & the Beast” later on this month, we
wanted to introduce you to Beauty’s silly sisters – Flora and
Dora!
The sisters recently stopped into the Kaleidoscope office
looking for their father. He’s late returning home from his
recent merchant trip overseas. Nicki, our Administrative
Director, interviewed them about their upcoming performance.
Nicki: So, why should people come see your show in March?
Flora: What show?
Dora: (rolling her eyes) Well, obviously they should come see
us! Father brought us beautiful silks and jewels from
his last trip and we look simply beautiful in them. Hopefully,
Father will be back from his current trip by then and we’ll
have even newer gowns to wear for the show!
Nicki: How about your sister, Beauty? Is she excited for the
show?
Flora: Who?
Dora: You know... our little sister... yecchh, Beauty.
Flora: Oh! Why is she called “Beauty” anyway? After all, we're
more mature than she is and we're certainly prettier. Why don't
people call me pretty? I'd like that for a name. I think I
should be called “Pretty”. How does that sound?
Dora: How does “ugly” sound?
Flora: That's nice! I can be “Pretty” and you can be “Pretty
Ugly”! (laughing)
Dora: Why, you... you...
Nicki: Ladies... please sit down! You might mess your hair...
Dora: Oh my, we wouldn’t want to do that! Maybe I should reset
my hair in a new style for Father’s return... Flora, when I
fix my hair tonight, how do you think I should set it?
Flora: On fire! (laughing)
Nicki: Oh dear... maybe I should have invited Beauty in for this
interview instead.
Dora: Oh don’t worry, she’ll be at the show. Why is she
everyone’s favorite anyway?
Flora: Who are we talking about now?
Dora: Beauty!!
Flora: Oh...
Nicki: Right. I think we’re all set ladies. Thank you so much
for coming in and we look forward to seeing you again on
March 19th and 20th. (Flora and Dora exit.)
Well, that was... interesting. Don’t worry, we know Beauty is
your favorite too! Come meet Beauty in person next month
at our performances of “Beauty & the Beast.”
3. “THE MAGIC OF STORY TIME”
March also sees the return of our “Magic of Story Time” program.
The story time princesses, Cinderella and Snow White
will be at the Taunton Public Library on Saturday, March 26th.
For more information, check out their website at
http://www.tauntonlibrary.org. Our recent performance at the
North Kingstown Library filled up early, so if you’re interested
in attending, please inquire soon!
The story time princesses (and their handsome princes) will then
be at the RI Home Show on April 2nd and 3rd. This event is open
to the public and will be at the RI Convention Center in
Providence.
Finally, just the Princesses will also be at the Woonsocket
Harris Public Library on April 20th. This performance is

4. BIRTHDAY PARTIES
As the weather gets nicer, we get more and more requests for our
characters to make appearances at birthday parties.
All of our princesses – Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, etc...
are available for parties. If you’re interested in having
characters come to your child’s upcoming party, please call us
at (401) 942-3637.
5. SUPPORTING OUR MEMBERS
Here is a list of other shows our performers are involved in.
Thanks so much for supporting them and supporting the local
arts!
A. Bob Macaux ( Henry in “The Frog Prince” and William in “Jack
and the Beanstalk”) is performing with the Black Box
Players in “Museum”. A lively satire of modern art, “Museum”
takes place on the closing day of three avant-garde exhibits and
features 42 colorful characters, including: museum goers,
artists and museum staff as they respond to the art and to one
another. Bob will be playing a Bohemian photographer, Michael
Wall.
The dates of the show are March 25th through April 10th.
Friday & Saturday evenings at 7:00, Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets are $15.00 Call 490-9475 for reservations.
B. Holly Shadoian (the original Snow White and President of our
Board) recently won an Award of Honor for her song
“Shepherd Boy”. Holly has earned a single instrument and vocal
demo on CD, and $60 cash plus a $50 cash bonus for having her
Christmas entry in by December 1st. The Nashville International
Song & Lyric Competition for Christmas 2010 was sponsored by
Paramount Song. Congrats, Holly and good luck with the demo!
C. Jordan McClure (from our “BULLY” program) was cast as 'Dill'
in "To Kill a Mockingbird", in a stage reading. The reading will
be directed by Matthew Bruffee and can be seen at the following
times and locations:
* MiddleboroTown Hall, March 19, 2pm.
* Lakeville Library, March 26, 2pm.
* Messiah Baptist Church, 80 Legion Pkwy., Brockton, MA, April
2, 2pm.
Attendance is free, thanks to partial funding from the
Massachusetts Cultural Council. Donations accepted.
D. Jay Miscia (who’s played both the Hunstman and Wolf in
“Little Red” along with the Minister in “Cinderella”) will be
appearing in “MACBETH” with The Players at Barker Playhouse.
Performance Dates: March 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, and 27, 2011.
Performance Times: Friday and Saturday at 8:00PM, Sunday at
2:00PM. Macbeth, or “The Scottish Play”, is known to be one of
Shakespeare’s most often performed works and why not? Where else
can you get witches and kings, lords and ladies, blood and gore,
not to mention greed, lust, and ambition? The Scotland of the
11th century is a harsh, forbidding place where power and
ruthlessness hold sway and Macbeth makes deadly assumptions
based on the
prophesy of the “weird sisters”. Planned murder leads to
unplanned murders ending with a stage awash in blood. Come and
see all this mayhem and murder. Tickets are $20. Reservations
can be made by calling the Players at the Barker Playhouse at
401-273-0590 or email
theplayers1909@aol.com. Note: If you are not a member of the
Players, let them know how you heard about the show (such as
"Jay invited me") when making reservations.
Sandy Cerel (who directed our fundraiser last year) is now
directing "Curtains" for the Community Players. It is a
Kander and Ebb Musical Comedy Whodunit and it runs from April 1
to April 17. The reservation number is 726-6860.

That concludes this month’s issue. If you have any questions
about any of the events in our newsletter, don’t hesitate to
contact us via email or phone – (401) 942-3637. Thank you for
your continued support.
