Voted RI Monthly's
"A RI treasure"
|
Well, the
newest show is of course our school-touring show, “B.U.L.L.Y.,”
which is so new that it hasn’t even been performed
yet! Our newest fairytale musical is “Rapunzel,”
which began in the summer of 2004. Before that, our
newest dinner-theatre murder-mystery was premiered
in 2001. 2000 marked the beginning of the fairytale
musical “Heidi,” which followed 1999’s “The Frog
Prince.” There are many factors which go into deciding what new shows to create. The most important source is audience feedback. At all school-touring performances, for example, the teachers, parents, principals, etc. who are watching the show are given feedback sheets which ask them to tell us what they liked/disliked about the production. One question that we ask is what additional topics we should address with our school-touring shows. This is where the idea for “B.U.L.L.Y.,” and most of our other school- touring shows came about. For our fairytale productions, we also look into the story’s popularity. The more popular shows always attract larger crowds, so we don’t usually pick obscure fairytales for our repertoire. “The Classics” always make the best choices. Shows that have been mentioned as possibilities for future summers include: “Cinderella II: the Story Continues,” “The Shoemaker & the Elves,” “Thumbelina,” and “Tom Sawyer.” Are there any shows that you would like to see Kaleidoscope Theatre create? Or would you really like to see one of the shows that is mentioned as a possibility come to life? Please let us know what you think, because your feedback is what helps us to make all of our decisions! |
